Description
Description
An Orisha is a spirit that reflects one of the manifestations of God in Africa’s Yoruba religion. Many Orishas have found their way throughout the Americas via the Atlantic slave trade and are now expressed in practices as varied as Santería, Candomblé, Trinidad Orisha, and Oyotunji.
Sopona is the deity of infectious diseases, but he is also the one that can sweep away sickness.
He promotes the cure for illnesses but also has the ability to cause severe pain and suffering. Due to his power, his worshipers avoid speaking his true name thus he is most commonly referred to using other names and titles, such as Bablu-Aye, Oluaye, and Omolu.
During the transatlantic slave trade, Sopona arrived at the New World through his followers and became known as Bablu-Aye in the Americas. In Santeria, Babalu-Aye is among the most popular orishas. His miracles are synonymous with Saint Lazarus and are often honored at the same celebration.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
