Description
Description
The figure of the hooded reaper, often referred to as the Grim Reaper, emerges from medieval European iconography, specifically evolving during the aftermath of the Black Death in the 14th century. As mortality became a pervasive and sudden reality, the personification of death shifted from a passive observer to an active harvester, wielding a scythe—a tool traditionally associated with the cyclical nature of agriculture—now repurposed to signify the inevitable cutting down of human life. This depiction incorporates the symbolic elements of the prophecy and the open ledger, reflecting the Memento Mori tradition which sought to remind the viewer of their own inevitable demise. Belonging to themes of gothic mysticism, macabre art, and eschatological symbolism, this piece captures the solemn, transformative power of the end of days, standing as a stark reminder of the fragile boundary between existence and the great unknown.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
