Description
“The Dancing Sisters” shows two slender dancers turning back to back, each balanced on the toes of one foot while the other leg kicks out to the side. A long ribbon loops around both figures and ties the composition together, as if the pair were caught in the middle of a single, shared movement. The golden-brown bronze sits on a stepped round black base, and at 35.8 cm tall the sculpture has the elegance and lightness of a stage performance.

The mirrored poses, the raised arms and the swirling ribbon recall the Art Deco dance figures of the 1920s and 1930s, when sculptors were fascinated by modern dance, rhythm and the athletic female body. Because the two dancers face away from each other, the sculpture offers a different view from every angle: from the front you see a symmetrical pair, from the side a spiral of arms, legs and ribbon.
