Description
Description
This depiction captures the steadfast vigilance of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, commonly known as the Knights Hospitaller. Emerging in the 11th century to provide medical care for pilgrims in the Holy Land, the Order evolved into a formidable military force tasked with the defense of Christendom. The knight is adorned in the traditional red surcoat emblazoned with the iconic white cross, a symbol of the Order’s religious devotion and martial discipline. Clad in articulated armor and bearing a round shield marked with the distinctive Maltese cross, this figure evokes the era of the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, when the Hospitallers valiantly held the island against overwhelming odds. This piece belongs to the themes of medieval chivalry, Crusader history, and the enduring legacy of the military monastic orders that shaped the geopolitical landscape of the Mediterranean.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
