Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was a French military and political leader who rose during the French Revolution, became Emperor of the French in 1804, and expanded the French Empire through military conquests. His reign ended with defeats at Leipzig (1813) and Waterloo (1815), leading to his exile to St. Helena, where he died. Napoleon's legacy includes military brilliance, administrative reforms, and the Napoleonic Code, but also the disruption caused by his conquests.
