Sobek is the ancient god of crocodiles, often depicted as a crocodile, a mummified crocodile, or a man with the head of a crocodile. As the god of the Nile river, Sobek also brought fertility to the land of Egypt. It is likely that in the beginning, Egyptians worship Sobek as a fearsome deity with some dark qualities, however, his strength and protection were valued greatly when used in defense of the Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. Mummified crocodiles and crocodile eggs were often found with the deceased in order to enlist the protection of Sobek in the afterlife.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
