Description
Description
This piece exemplifies the fascination with Egyptomania that surged through the Western world following the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in the 1920s, a cultural phenomenon that profoundly influenced the Art Deco movement. By blending the geometric precision and stylized elegance characteristic of the Jazz Age with the timeless iconography of ancient Egypt, this work evokes the sacred processions of the Nile, where winged solar motifs often represented divine protection and the afterlife. The kneeling figures, reminiscent of temple attendants or celestial mourners found in tomb paintings, serve as conduits between antiquity and modernity, embodying the era’s penchant for exoticism and historical revivalism. It belongs to the broader themes of Egyptian Revival, neoclassical influence, and the dramatic, decorative opulence of Art Deco design, reflecting an age that sought to translate the mythic grandeur of the pharaohs into the sophisticated aesthetic of the twentieth-century home.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
