Description
Description
This piece draws its profound imagery from the Aztec Sun Stone, an iconic late post-classic monument unearthed in Mexico City that serves as a complex synthesis of Aztec cosmogony and calendar systems. At the heart of the central medallion rests the visage of the solar deity Tonatiuh, his tongue extended in the form of an obsidian sacrificial blade, surrounded by the four previous eras, or "suns," that according to Mexica mythology preceded the current world. Encircling these divine chronicles are the twenty day signs of the Aztec tonalpohualli, a sacred ritual count that governed the spiritual life of the empire. Belonging to themes of ancient Mesoamerican history, celestial archeology, and pre-Columbian mysticism, this artifact offers a tangible connection to the sophisticated astronomical knowledge and the cyclical worldview that defined the cultural legacy of the Aztec civilization.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
