Description
Description
Emerging from the depths of Norse mythology, Fafnir represents the archetypal transformation of greed into monstrous form, a cautionary figure central to the Völsunga saga. Originally a dwarf of immense power, his insatiable desire for the cursed hoard of Andvari led him to abandon his kin and assume the shape of a serpent to protect his ill-gotten wealth. This intricate depiction captures the serpentine essence of the legend, entwined within the complex, rhythmic knots of Urnes-style zoomorphic ornamentation that defined Viking Age aesthetics. Marked by the inclusion of the Valknut—a symbol deeply associated with the transition between life and death and the majesty of Odin—this piece invites a reflection on the ancient themes of destiny, the corrupting nature of avarice, and the enduring power of Germanic folklore. Through its dense, interlacing coils and ferocious visage, it stands as a testament to the Northmen's profound artistic engagement with the primordial forces that govern the cosmos.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
