Description
Description
The Mortician Apothecarius evokes the haunting silhouette of the plague doctor, a figure synonymous with the seventeenth-century response to the bubonic plague. Clad in the iconic protective garb designed by Charles de Lorme, this practitioner is depicted with the characteristic bird-like mask, which was traditionally filled with aromatic herbs and spices believed to counteract the "miasma" or foul air thought to transmit disease. Surrounded by a stack of ancient tomes and guided by the dim glow of a lantern, this figure embodies the intersection of early modern medicine, superstition, and the grim reality of mortality during one of history’s most devastating pandemics. This piece belongs to the themes of historical macabre, dark academia, and Gothic Victorian medical lore, capturing the solemn atmosphere of a scholar navigating the shadows of human affliction.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
