Description
Description
Penthesilea, the Queen of the Amazons, was the progeny of Ares, the god of war, and Otrera, the nymph. Penthesilea's tale is woven intricately with the narrative of the Trojan War.
Penthesilea accidentally killed her sister, Hippolyta, during a hunting trip. Overcome with guilt, she was desperate to die in a heroic battle in order to seek redemption. So, she made her way to Troy, deciding to fight on the Trojan side against the Greeks.
Arriving in Troy, Penthesilea fought fiercely alongside the Trojans and reportedly killed many Greek warriors. Her strength and courage gained the respect of Prince Hector, the Trojans’ greatest warrior, and the Trojan soldiers.
Despite her fear-inspiring reputation, she was ultimately vanquished by Achilles. However, once her helmet was lifted and her face revealed, Achilles was stricken with love for her. He deeply lamented killing Penthesilea upon witnessing her beauty and heroic spirit, even in death.
The story of Penthesilea depicts passion, bravery, guilt and regret. It underlines the complexities of war where heroes kill heroes and feelings of love and regret can surface even amidst brutal conflict.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
