Saint Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins de Bulhões in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1195, is one of the Catholic Church's most revered saints. A member of the Franciscan Order, he initially joined the Augustinian monastery but later transferred to the Franciscans, inspired by the martyrdom of the first Franciscan missionaries. Renowned for his profound knowledge of scriptures, eloquence in preaching, and deep commitment to the poor and marginalized, Saint Anthony is also famously invoked as the patron saint of lost items. Canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1232, just a year after his death, he continues to be celebrated globally for his humility, piety, and miraculous intercessions.
