Description
Description
The flat-woven textiles of the Emirdağ region hold an important place among Anatolian-Turkish flat-woven textiles. The weavings of the region developed in line with the weaving traditions brought by the Yoruks and Turkmens, who make up the majority of the population, from the regions they previously inhabited. The primary material for carpets and flat-woven textiles (kilim, cicim, zili, sumak) in Anatolia is wool. In carpets and flat-woven textiles, the vertical threads are called warp, the horizontal threads are weft, and the decorative threads are face threads. Warp threads are generally double-ply and are locally referred to as “bukme,” “double-ply,” or “givrat.” On the other hand, weft and decorative threads are single-ply.
In natural dyeing, wool threads are dyed in two ways: While some dye substances pass directly onto the wool, others require an intermediary substance. This intermediary process is called "mordanting." In the Emirdağ region, nitric acid (acid) is used in the mordanting process. According to sources, Afyon has a very rich potential in terms of natural dye substances. In the region:
Blue is obtained using indigo,
Red and its shades are obtained using root dye,
Yellow and its shades come from plants like pinar and mullein,
Green shades are achieved by re-dyeing wool previously dyed yellow with indigo,
Brown and its shades are derived from oak gall powder and walnut shells,
Black is obtained by re-dyeing brown wool (dyed with oak and walnut) with the plant known as "sacikibris."
In Bindalli kilims, the motif called "Bindalli," placed in the section referred to as the "center" by locals and framed by borders, has a geometric appearance. This motif consists of hexagons joined at their corners on either side, and rhombuses (diamond shapes) arranged similarly at the top and bottom, forming a cross-like pattern. On the exposed edges of the hexagons and rhombuses, motifs resembling fringes, known as "comca," are added. Among the locals, this arrangement is called "Bindalli" due to its branched and fringed appearance, and the weavings are referred to as "Bindalli kilims."
The Bindalli design takes its name from the comca motifs placed on the exposed edges of the hexagons and diamond shapes, which give the appearance of fringes. In various weaving centers of Anatolia, the comca motif, locally called "givrim," is named after the ladles used in cooking, specifically soup ladles.

Care
Care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight. For bronze and metal pieces, an occasional light coat of wax or polish helps preserve the finish. Porcelain and glass items should be hand-cleaned gently to protect painted or gilded details.
